Sister Weekend in Chicago

Wednesday, August 3, 2016

My sister has been interning in Indianapolis for the summer and since she's a short drive up to Chicago, I knew I wanted to go spend a weekend with her before she moves back to FL for school. My parents were so sweet and gifted me the flight for my birthday! I will give you a fair warning that this post will be picture heavy, especially with cityscapes.

I took a half day at work on Thursday and flew out to Indianapolis after lunch. Stephen loaded up my tablet with Gossip Girl episodes but unfortunately, my seat mate had other ideas lol He ended up talking to me for 90% of the flight... you win some, you lose some. My sister and her boyfriend picked me up from the airport and we headed over to downtown Indianapolis to try Bru Burger - it was delicious!! Afterwards, we headed back to the suburb where they live and we got ice cream from Handel's Homemade Ice Cream but if you ask me, it was a Bruster's ;) I did get a delicious cup of oreo/cookie dough ice cream. After ice cream, Caroline and I hung out at her apartment before it was time to go to bed.

I made them get a selfie with me lol

Friday morning, we got up and headed out to Chicago! I was so excited to get to the city - the drive was about 3 hours and all we saw were corn fields and one fun stretch of wind turbines. After we got into the city, we left our bags at the hotel and headed out to the Bean. After seeing the Bean we walked around, saw Trump Tower, saw the river and enjoyed Magnificent Mile. We stopped into Eataly for a quick bite and had the best Italian sandwich. That store/restaurant is so much fun and we both bought some fun pasta to take home to make for dinner :)

We stayed at The Palmer House and it was seriously so beautiful and perfect! It was in the best location, had so much history and the rooms were really nice. We were so impressed!

After some shopping, we headed back to the hotel to check in and rest for a few minutes before our dinner reservation at RPM. We had an early reservation and of course, as soon as we stepped out of the hotel, it was raining. We didn't know what to do because we probably would've been late if we took an Uber so we walked over there in the rain... that sucked but we made it on time! Oh my goodness, the food was so good and all homemade! So worth it and I've been dying to go to RPM and hoping to see Giuliana and Bill Rancic but we didn't see them :/ After dinner, we swung by Glazed and Infused to get some donuts for the next morning. I'm not going to lie, I was underwhelmed - only 1 out of the 4 was actually REALLY good. So just skip the other flavors and get vanilla bean ;)

We headed back to the hotel after dinner to change so we could enjoy our evening - we were wet and cold from walking in the rain. Thankfully, the rain didn't last long and the rest of the evening was perfect. We stopped in Dylan's Candy to get some goodies and did some more shopping/walking around the city before calling it a night.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early in hopes to do the Sky Deck without a lot of people around. Well, we got there and there was so much fog, they said we wouldn't be able to see anything. So we decided against it and walked over to the river front. We spent some time there before walking some more and hitting up TJ Maxx. Caroline found an adorable watch and purse and I snagged a bigger cross body purse which I love! We knew we wanted to eat a nice sit down brunch and ate at Atwood which was amazing and so neat inside! After brunch, we walked back to the Willis Tower in hopes we could do the Sky Deck but there was a 2 hour wait... so we walked back to the hotel and headed home.

Too much fog :(

There are so many more things I'd love to go back and do in Chicago - we barely scrapped the tip of the ice! We had a great time and it was so much fun seeing the Midwest!
