Easter 2018

Friday, April 6, 2018

Time kept getting away from me this week and I am just now recapping our Easter weekend (better late than never, right?)

We had a really nice Easter this year. We kept up with the tradition of doing Easter at Stephen's parents' because his dad is a pastor. We headed south on Saturday, stopped at the outlet mall (thank goodness I'm pregnant and can't buy the clothes at J Crew because I would've spent a fortune - everything was so cute!) and then met Stephen's parents and younger brother for lunch before heading back to their house. The rest of the night was low key and we went to bed early because we had to go to the sunrise service the next morning.

Sunday, we were up quite early and headed to the first service of the day (since his dad is a pastor, we had to go to sunrise, breakfast, Bible study and then 2nd service because that's when the rest of the family joined us). My BIL & SIL, along with my SIL's family for the first time, met us at 2nd service and then we headed home for appetizers while lunch cooked.

It was so much fun hanging out with my niece and nephew - Siena is at such a fun age now and really understood Easter eggs this year which made things more fun. Luke did so well and was so adorable! The brothers had to do their annual raw egg toss and each of them lost at one point - definitely gave us some entertainment for the afternoon ;)

Luke with his cousin - doesn't he look so excited? lol!

Stephen lost the first round of the egg toss

Siena was enjoying watching them - she kept clapping and cheering for them which was so cute

We all enjoyed a nice lunch then we headed back outside so Siena could do a mini egg hunt. It was so funny because the boys were helping her and would say "there's an egg! go get it!" and she would say "you get it!" After the festivities, Stephen and I loaded up and headed home... completely exhausted. It was so much fun and I can't wait for Miss Savannah to join us next year!

Easter 2017

Monday, April 17, 2017

Hey y'all! Long time no see! We are finally getting back into a normal routine which we are both looking forward to after traveling to NYC then packing up and heading to my in-laws 2 days later for Easter. I'm really hoping to blog about our trip this week but we'll see what happens with life...

Since I don't want our Easter to get lost in the archives, I figured I'd go ahead and share our weekend with y'all :) Friday, we really hung around at home most of the night, relaxed and then I made Stephen watch "It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown!" - he was slightly weirded out by it lol We were in bed by 9 pm which was lovely after a tiring week.

Saturday, we got up, made breakfast, I packed real quick and then we headed to my in-laws. There's a small outlet mall about half way to their house so we stopped in for the J Crew Factory sale and boy did we rack up... the whole store was 50% off and their clearance was an extra 60%! We saved about $260 which was fun to see on the receipt - and helps justify it ;) I got these scalloped shortsthis ruffled topthis black tank with a fun bottomthis polka dot dress (this is the first dress in this style that didn't make me look huge as a house), this pencil skirt, this floral print dress (I ended up wearing it for Easter), this structured dressthis button down for work and this button down for work - these are seriously my favorite button downs for work. I wanted to share this leopard sweater was on sale and this ruffled button down - I have both and love them!! What I really wanted to get from this visit was this ruffle sleeve shirt in white but they're literally sold out everywhere - I hope they're restocked by Memorial Day sales.

This is getting really long already but Stephen also made out like a bandit - even getting a button down shirt for $4!!! He walked away with these shortsbutton downbutton down and button down along with another button down and tie that wasn't online. We popped into Restoration Hardware outlet but didn't see anything so we headed down to Okeechobee.

We had lunch when we got there and then went to work. We dyed Easter eggs with our niece, Siena - we tried the egg inside the whisk trick which worked well but I think next year, things will go a lot smoother. We played with bubbles, chalk and did a few rounds of corn hole before the boys did yard work and the girls sewed. My MIL is a wonderful sewer (she made Siena's Easter dress) and taught Lauren and me how to sew with a kitchen towel project. It was a lot of fun and the towels turned out great! After, we ate dinner and settled in for a movie before I fell asleep during it and went to bed.

When we first arrived, Siena woke up from a nap so she was tired and we hadn't seen her since Christmas so it took a little warming up. Stephen was the cutest and wanted to play with her so badly - it didn't take her long to warm back up to us :)

Lauren sewing it up like a pro!

The finished product

Sunday, we were up early for the sunrise service. Thankfully, the weather was nice and the service went well. Since Stephen's dad is the pastor, we had to hang around until breakfast, Sunday school and 2nd service was over. Once we got back to the house, we did a small Easter egg hunt for Siena and the boys grilled steaks for lunch. After lunch we packed up and headed home which was nice because we were able to relax and get everything in order for the week.

Lauren and I took Siena to play in the kids rooms during the 2nd service sermon and she loved the keyboard

She was so over the pictures at this point

She was a pro at getting Easter eggs! The kids at the hunts next year better watch out ;)

I am so looking forward to a normal week (minus Stephen's launch on Tuesday) and I'm finally getting back on track with my nutrition plan and workouts - so ready for feel good again! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! I loved seeing everyone's beautiful families in their Easter best on Instagram :) Linking up with Biana

Easter 2016

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

It only took me 4 days but I'm finally blogging about our Easter weekend! We didn't get home until late Sunday night and the rest of the week, we've been trying to catch up. It's funny how if you miss your Sunday chores, your whole week is thrown off.

Friday, we had a pretty low key night and I packed for our little road trip south. Saturday, we kind of slept in and then headed out towards Stephen's parents house for Easter. We stopped by the Restoration Hardware outlet and it had some amazing pieces but nothing we needed. They did have some beautiful cribs and I was so tempted to go ahead and buy one to save for one day ;) We will be going back there once we're pregnant to see if they have any good cribs then. We also stopped into J Crew Factory - I found nothing and Stephen found some pants. I did realize that my 3" chino shorts are looking a little too short so now I've got to start buying the longer ones :/

We finally made it to Stephen's parents house and they bought our niece a high chair so we put that together. Gotta get some practice when we can ;) They also surprised all of us and upgraded their badminton set so Stephen and I got out there and played his parents. They also surprised Stephen and I and got us rocking chairs for the front porch! I asked for them for Christmas but Home Depot didn't carry them during that time so we got them this past weekend! We love them but unfortunately, it's been rainy so we haven't gotten to use them yet. After our Home Depot run, Stephen's little brother came into town and we made burgers for dinner and spent the rest of the night hanging out.

Proud Uncle with the assembled high chair lol

It's not a trip to Okeechobee without a vanilla coke and boiled peanuts from the drive thru

Sunday we were up bright and early for sunrise service. We all thought it was going to rain but it held out! Unfortunately, it was muggy as ever but thankfully it was only 1 service outside lol After the service, we had our traditional pancake breakfast that some of the church members make and then we headed to Sunday school. Right before 2nd service, my BIL & SIL arrived so it was great catching up and playing with my niece before the service.

She found my watch and LOVED it... would not let it go - it was the cutest thing

Trying to make Siena smile

We're almost getting too big to fit in the frame!

After 2nd service, we headed home for Easter lunch and crafting. Usually, we dye eggs but Lauren had the idea to do a craft with the girls since the eggs just get wasted. She came up with the idea of making an Easter flag for the front yard! Such a good idea and they turned out so well! The rest of the day we played with Siena, played badminton and finished up crafting. Before we knew it, it was after 6pm and time to head home.

Everyone got an abundance of Easter candy!

Loving her new chair and sitting at the table like a big girl for lunch!

Working on our Easter craft

The engineer in me came out...

3 Generations of Hirst girls sewing watching my MIL sew

Our finished products! Can't wait to hang our outside next year!

And what's Easter without the boys' raw Easter egg toss? This year it broke on Stephen

We had a great Easter with family celebrating our Lord's resurrection! Hope everyone else had a great Easter (although I've already read most of your posts and it looks like y'all did ;))

Five on Good Friday

Friday, March 25, 2016

Happy Good Friday everyone!! Even though it's more of a somber Friday, it truly is GOOD! Jesus died on the cross for US so that we may spend eternity with Him - Praise Jesus!!

One
While we were out walking the other day during lunch, we stumbled upon this TINY baby deer! Oh my goodness, he was the most precious thing ever and he was just laying out in open grass!! We couldn't believe it and were wondering where his mom was. We took another lap and by the time we got back, he was gone so we're saying he went into the nearby woods with his mom and is safe and sound.

Is he not the cutest thing ever?! I was dying to go over and pet him lol

Two
I've been having a little bit of a rough week and I was so surprised to find a package from my mom with these adorable placemats!! Could they not be more perfect!? I'm obsessed and it definitely made my day yesterday :) She also sent us some yummy Easter goodies - I love that she still sends us Easter "baskets"

I couldn't find a link to these online but she got them at Homegoods

Three
Have y'all noticed the new changes to Bloglovin? I'm not going to lie, I'm not a fan of the whole "all the articles your followers like, shows up in your feed". I get the idea but now my feed is filled with all sorts of blog posts that I didn't necessarily want to follow and it's taking me forever to get through them. Does anyone else feel this way or am I being cynical?

Stephen is in charge of the operations side of building and controlling the arm (Arm Control Engineer - ACE) that the astronauts will walk out on in order to get into the capsule for the new human launches that his company will be doing next year. On Monday, they had a big press conference and the Orlando Sentinel did a piece on it. The article and video turned out alright but it's still cool! The article and video is HERE. You can see a quick snip from Instagram here.

Five
I can't believe it's actually Easter weekend already! Since Stephen's dad is a pastor and since my family is out of state, every year we go down to his parents in Okeechobee for Easter. It should be fun seeing everyone again - especially our niece ;) We always go to the sunrise service since Stephen has to help setup, then we go home, eat Easter lunch and color eggs (the boys never did this growing up - my SIL and I had to show them how it was done). Usually within that time, we have an egg toss contest and the brothers do a raw egg toss. This year, my SIL got a craft for us to do instead of painting eggs - can't wait to see what she picked out!

Let's take a quick walk down Okeechobee Easter memory lane with crappy pictures lol

2013 - We were engaged this Easter

And we took our first air boat ride!

2014 - Our first married Easter

2015

Lauren (my SIL) was newly pregnant and was hiding it from everyone last year - can't wait for Siena's first Easter this year!

What Easter traditions do you have?
