Five on Friday

Friday, December 1, 2017

Happy December 1st!! I am so excited it's officially December - let the Christmas festivities officially begin!! Tonight, we're kicking things off with a cheese and wine event at the local gardens followed by dinner with some friends and then Saturday we're hitting up Disney and later we have Stephen's Christmas party at the Space Center.

One
Unless you live under a rock, you've heard there's going to be another royal wedding!!!!!!!!!! To say I'm excited is an understatement - I can't wait to watch it! To be honest, I'm not a big fan of Megan #stillkatesnumber1fan but I'm definitely loving all of this royal news and hope they have a wonderful marriage :)

Two
This year was the first year we watched the Rockefeller tree lighting ceremony! I've tried to get Stephen to watch it in the past and he never had any interest except this year he was game because we were there a few months ago #illtakewhaticanget. We didn't see the whole thing but it was pretty cool to watch! Were we the only ones who noticed they lit the tree before the end of the countdown?

Three
My friend made some adorable Christmas baby bibs and blankets to match and we're selling them with an option to add a monogram to them! She did such a great job; now I only wish I had a baby so I could use one lol

Four
I recently got my first pair of block heels and now I'm all about the block heels!! They're so much easier to walk in and more comfortable than regular heels. The weight is distributed a lot better. I was able to wear mine for the first time for an entire day at work - I usually lose my regular heels by lunch. I'm going to wear them for Stephen's party this weekend so it'll be nice with all the walking we'll be doing.

Five
We are super pumped because we ordered our Christmas cards (kind of on a whim) from Amazon Photo because it was so cheap and they had a really cute design - we are pleasantly surprised with the product! They didn't have a lot of special options but for the price, it was fantastic!! I'll share our card once they've been sent out but I wanted to give y'all a heads up in case you still need cards :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend filled with Christmas activities and movies!

Ultimate 2017 Christmas Gift Guide: Kids

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

I'm joining Brittany and Owen today for the beginning of their 2017 Christmas gift guide! Today, we're covering gifts for kids and while I don't have any children of my own, hopefully this guide will at least give you some ideas :)

1. Bath Time Doll Set: Our niece is 2 and is obsessed with baby dolls right now. Someone got her a small baby doll bath set for her birthday this weekend and she loves playing with it!

2. Nerf Guns: These are definitely for the older kids but Stephen and I have these and they're so much fun! We love running around the house shooting each other with these (we are children lol)

3. LEGO Chain Reaction Kit: I saw this and thought it was the coolest thing! Chain reactions seem to be a big rage on the internet right now so why not use this to encourage your child's imagination - especially if they seem to be little engineers. I would've loved this gift as a kid!

4. Baby Doll Stroller: We got this for our niece's birthday and she loved it! Right away, she had her little babies in it and has taken them on walks

5. Foam Bath Letters: We had these as a kid and loved them. They're the perfect stocking stuffers and you can make learning letters and numbers into a fun bath time game

Our Christmas Decorations 2016

Wednesday, December 14, 2016

I absolutely love having our house decorated for Christmas! It's so cozy, warm and uplifting - is it socially acceptable to leave our tree up all year? I wanted to share some snip-its of our house decorated for Christmas this year.

Since taking this picture, we got some pre-lit, Magnolia garland which is now behind the nativity scene. I moved the garland seen above to our living room table.

I added our names to our stockings this year and I love how they turned out!

I had to make a new Christmas card display this year so I got an empty frame from Hobby Lobby and added some twine to clip the cards to. So far, it's working really well!

Our 2nd tree that gave us so much trouble... thankfully, the new adapter seems to be working well!

I totally failed and only bought 2 placemats in this set a few years ago. I'll be looking for new placemats and table decorations after Christmas this year

I just love how simple the outside of our house looks - the wreaths on the windows give me all the heart eyes, especially with the rocking chairs this year. We also put some lights in the bushes and around the small palm tree

Christmas Decorations 2015

Wednesday, December 2, 2015

First of all, I missed my post yesterday due to some garland that wouldn't cooperate with me so I have to say hello December! I can't believe Christmas is finally upon us and I cannot wait to celebrate Jesus' birth!

We pretty much maxed out our Christmas decorating space in our apartment with spending 2 Christmases there. Now that we have a house, my mind is running wild with ideas of how to decorate. I have to remind myself that with this being our 3rd Christmas, our house isn't going to look like my mom's house this year - it's going to take time to accumulate Christmas decorations. We really try to get most of our decorations the day after Christmas since everything is on major sale. For example, we got our Christmas tree for $45 and it's a really nice, full one. I do know that Jo-Ann's has all of their Christmas decorations marked down 60% and will go even higher the closer it gets to Christmas.

This year, we kind of covered the bases and kept things more simple. However, our list is constantly growing with items we want to buy the day after Christmas.

We finally got a fake tree and I couldn't be more happy!!

I was so excited, I snagged this sign from Kirklands after Christmas last year for less than $5!

Stephen's mom made us that cute little basket on top with pine cones from their yard

I love this garland and I'm really hoping it stays up. The other night I had the worst time getting it to stay.

Since this was the first year in our house, we were able to put lights up outside! Stephen did an amazing job wrapping the palm tree and I thing next year we'll add some to the roof. I would also love to put a small lit tree on either side of the door and add some lit garland. I also put red bows on the lights but the bulbs are so bright, you can't see them here.

I found this rug at Target for $10

I'm so glad the decorations are done so that we can finally enjoy them and relax! What are your favorite decorations to put up?

An Okeechobee Christmas

Monday, December 29, 2014

It's official, we've taken down all of our Christmas stuff and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I'm always sad when Christmas is over and I love seeing the decorations and lights in the house, but once it's over I'm kind of done and want it to all be put away. It will be nice to have everything back to normal.

This Christmas was special for us because it was our second married Christmas together and we got to spend it with Stephen's family this year. I missed my family dearly but it was fun to experience Christmas with my in-laws. We were all blessed to be able to have the whole family in Okeechobee for Christmas - even Stephen's grandpa was there!

We headed out on December 23 and made it in time to help with the Christmas production rehearsals. (Stephen's dad is a pastor and every year they put on a big production on Christmas Eve) Stephen's younger brother was the director and put the production together, I ended up being his assistant and Stephen was on spotlight duty. It was a rush, but we had a great time helping.

Had to get a picture with the tree at the church upon arrival

On Christmas Eve, my brother and sister-in-law joined us for the Christmas festivities! They brought along their dog, Sunny, which made things a lot more lively. Pretty much as soon as they got there, the boys decided to break out their dad's old BB gun. They used an old, blown up picture of John's face as a target and Sunny was scared to death of it! It was hysterical watching him bark and run from the picture.

Stephen's younger brother, Tim's, girlfriend Liz was in town for a few days so we decided to run through a famous Okeechobee beverage drive-through before she left. They had never been through a drive-through like that before so it was a must do. Stephen got me hooked on drive-through vanilla cokes - I had to get one and it didn't disappoint!

Excited to get something at the drive-through

Delicious!

All the Hirst kids (and one fur grand-baby)!

For Christmas Eve dinner, Lauren and I were in charge of making something quick and easy. We decided on hot corn dip and ham & cheese sliders. I've seen these sliders all over pinterest and had never tried them. Oh my word I've been missing out! They were so good! I'm definitely going to have to remake them for Stephen and I soon.

After dinner we all got ready and headed over to the church for the big Christmas Eve production! The production went great and everyone seemed to enjoy it! We all had a blast helping out and seeing it come together. Of course, we had to get lots of pictures before and after the service.

So official with the headsets and walkies

Fun in the sound booth

Couldn't get a picture before it started so I snapped this one as everyone was leaving - it was a packed house

The best sister-in-law!

Thankful for a hubby who will take silly pictures with me

All the boys looking fancy

After the service, we came home, got into our Christmas jammies, had some snacks, watched TV and played an intense game of Catch Phrase. The Hirst siblings love some Catch Phrase and Sunny loves watching Animal Planet! It was a riot watching him actually watch a show and bark back to the dogs!

Christmas morning we woke up and I got one of the first gifts of the day - my first adult onesie! Lauren and I had a blast running around in them while waiting for Stephen's parents to get his grandpa. While waiting we threw together a batch of monkey bread and oh my word, I've been missing out again! This was so delicious! Definitely need to make this again as well. The rest of the day was spent relaxing, eating, running around outside and eating some more.

Christmas morning

Had to get a picture with Sunny

Sunny wanted in on the picture

Later that day, Lauren and I decided to make these rice krispe Christmas trees. They're definitely not as pretty as the original ones but they were mighty delicious. After dinner we had a bonfire to burn lots and lots of papers. It was surprisingly really relaxing watching the fire while throwing tons of paper into it.

Our m&m's didn't stick too well

Sunny was tuckered out

Early on the 26th, Stephen and I decided to try to go find a fake Christmas tree. We found a great, simple one at Wal-Mart for $45! I'm so excited to have found one at such a great price. Although real trees have a certain appeal to them, I'm so thankful to have a fake one next year. After finding a tree, we went to a family friend's ranch to shoot John and Lauren's new shotgun. I've never shot a shotgun before and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't horrible to shoot and didn't have a lot of kick to it.

Stephen's looking thrilled to be there lol

Stephen broke out his gun for a few rounds

Later that afternoon, we headed over to the coast and did some more post Christmas decoration shopping. We found some amazing deals at Kirkland's and Target. Kirkland's always has the best sales on holiday decorations - 75% off! Can't beat those deals! Target has 50% off all Christmas items so we stocked up on all the essential consumables - wrapping paper, boxes, tissue paper, etc. After stocking up, Stephen's parents treated everyone to a delicious dinner at Pietro's on the Ocean at Jensen Beach.

The next few days were spent relaxing and being lazy around the house. We did decide to go look at a shooting area in Okeechobee called OK Corral Gun Club. This place was so neat! It had 2 clay shooting courses, an area to simulate shooting in the western days along with multiple beautiful ballrooms/buildings. It was such a neat little area and is the perfect place to escape for the day.

On our way home we were suckered into a DQ billboard and had to stop for a dipped cone and a mini blizzard.

Stephen and I had a great time celebrating our Savior's birth with family. Can't wait for Christmas next year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and spent it with loved ones.
