What's Hap-pinning: Dining Table Centerpiece Inspiration

Wednesday, April 6, 2016

Now that we're getting our first official dining room table, I want to make sure the centerpiece looks more official. I usually throw some fake flowers in a vase and call it a day but with this table, I want to make it a little more pronounced and grown up. Who knows, maybe I'll add a table runner!

My go-to flower for decorating is hydrangeas. They're so beautiful and they're my favorite flower - I think a nice vase with a white flower might make the table stand out, but they're already throughout the house and I don't know if this is overboard. Also, we have a Italian-esque painting in our dining room so I don't know if it will clash [see at bottom of post].

This picture makes me want to get a nice mirror to replace the painting..

I saw this picture from Ashley Furniture when we were looking at their table (we probably would've purchased this set if it didn't have a two-toned table - who does that?) and I fell in love with the jars of cotton! Again, I don't know if it will match the painting... sounds like we might have to replace that painting ;) (Stephen would never go for that)

I'm thinking the winner might be something more like this. I can replace the flowers in the box for the different seasons and holidays and Stephen will have a fun project to work on with building the box.

And for reference, here's our current situation:

I've decided to definitely replace that chandelier one day... who knows when that will be though

Finally Completed: DIY Shelf & China Cabinet

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

I've already shared our DIY shelf that we built for our family room and I've also shared a picture or two of our china cabinet and what I'd like for it to look like. Today, I'm here to share both the shelf and china cabinet, fully completed. We are both so excited with how both items turned out and can't believe we were able to make our vision come true.

All of the picture frames as well as the gold candle holder are from Hobby Lobby; everything else is from my mom

After getting our china cabinet in, we aired it out for a few days and then began to put our stuff in it. I started panicking and realized I didn't know how to prop our china up after not being able to find a 3-prong stand that wasn't less than $15/stand and super angled. I ran to Jo-Ann's and found these stands that work like a charm.

April Pin-spired

Thursday, April 9, 2015

So this was the first time I've had the post done and came up with specific outfits for an April Pinspired and Shay/Sheaffer decided they were going to change things up this month. Well since my post was already done, I didn't want to waste it so here's my April Pinspired...

Last month when we were visiting my brother and sister-in-law, Target was having a BOGO 50% off canvas shoes so my SIL and I decided to get a pair. Ever since high school, I've always kind of wanted a pair of Keds but always ended up getting Sperry's because they matched with everything better. Finding these Target ones was perfect because of the price and I could decide if I would really get some good use out of this type of shoes. I scoured Pinterest and found some great outfits and then whipped up some great casual outfits which are perfect for spring. I can't wait to wear them during our Disney trip in a few weeks :)

March Pin-spired

Monday, March 2, 2015

I cannot believe that it's already March 2, but that means it's time for another Pin-spired! I think this link-up is super fun and really look forward to trying to put together new outfits.

This first picture group isn't exactly "Pin-spired" but I finally had a full-length mirror in my hotel room when I was in Houston last week, so I had to take advantage of it.

I've never been a huge brown and black fan but I'm warming up to the combination - only for a limited number of items. I got this dress from Old Navy for Christmas (no longer online) and thought it was a little too casual for black flats so I decided to pair them with my Target flats and a tan scarf. I think this keeps the outfit a little casual but nice enough for work.

I love pretty much anything gingham but only have 1 shirt with that pattern. I definitely need to add some more to my wardrobe. I love the look of navy and green together so I decided to pair my navy cropped pants with my gingham shirt and green cardigan. (My outfit is on the left)

I have 2 pairs of J Crew crop pants and I LOVE them. One is this bright red color that everyone seems to make comments on and the other is a nice teal color. I really love the look of the red pants with a nice chambray shirt. Since I can't dress too casual at work, I paired them with a nicer chambray shirt I got for Christmas this year which keeps my outfit more on the casual/comfy side but still work appropriate.

Another way I styled a chambray shirt and colored pants was with my yellow pants and a more casual chambray shirt. I threw in a little more color with my coral necklace and my new Lilly clutch my sister got me for Christmas.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and check back tomorrow for our weekend trip to Ft. Lauderdale!

February Pin-spired & Weekending

Monday, February 2, 2015

Happy February! I recently saw Mix and Match Mama talk about doing a February Pin-spired linkup - I'm not one for taking "fashion" pictures (a little out of my comfort zone) but I figured this would be something fun to participate in! Since I only heard about it a few days ago, I don't have too many pictures but here are 2 items I was pin-spired with this month.

I love the look of a great plaid shirt and vest. It's been pretty cold (for Florida) so I've been enjoying wearing my fall/winter clothes... if only I could dress more casual for work.

This was the first time I curled my hair and it looked decent in YEARS - had to document it on the blog

I also love a good sweater-over-a-button-down combo. I recently paired a gingham shirt from Old Navy (no longer available) with a loft sweater (similar) for work one day.

Here are my inspirations for the outfit and jewelry combo.

Now onto our weekend that was filled with shopping, relaxing and cooking (super exciting, I know). Friday after work I went to a networking event at a local upscale bowling alley. I didn't do any bowling, but it was fun hanging out with everyone!

Had to get a picture from that night since I never go out (with my friend Caitlin)

Saturday, we went to town to go shopping. We had lots to look for (birthday's, the office redo, etc.) and Old Navy had $10 khakis! I had to grab a pair. I've never had skinny khakis so I'm excited to see how I can style these. I also picked up this shirt, which was on sale.

On Sunday, I did a lot of cooking for the Super Bowl. We aren't really into NFL football but we enjoy watching the commercials, the half time show and it's an excuse to make "fun" food I wouldn't usually make. On the menu - ham & cheese sliders, pigs in a blanket, skinny spinach & artichoke dip and cookie dough, brownie cheesecake to wrap up the meal. It was super delicious!

Some notes about the Super Bowl:
- The commercials were super sappy this year. So many dad commercials, I was tearing up pretty much every commercial break
- Even though she's crazy, the Kim Kardashian T-Mobile commercial was pretty funny! Nothing funnier than embracing what people make fun of you for
- The half time show was fantastic! I was surprised at how good Katy Perry did - all her props and outfit changes were great!
- The Missy Elliot performance at the half time show was probably my favorite thing of the whole night
- The game was pretty close the whole night which was also surprising for the Super Bowl - makes for a good game!
- The interception by the Pats at the end and then the fight?!?! OH.MY.WORD. It's getting real...
