Weekending: Memorial Day Edition

Tuesday, May 31, 2016

This Memorial Day weekend was so fantastic! We're having a really hard time coming to grips with reality and having to go back to work... can we just not adult? For some reason, the whole mood of the weekend was different knowing we still had Monday off - and let me tell you, it was amazing and we definitely need 3 day weekends from here on out ;)

Friday, Stephen took off work to get some things done around the house and once I got home from work, we headed off to the mall to look at some glasses for Stephen. He didn't find any yet but I sure did find a few pairs; too bad I don't need glasses right now. After looking at glasses we had dinner at Moe's (we haven't been there in years!) and it definitely brought me back to my high school days lol Afterwards, we debated on what to do next but ended up walking around the mall area and browsing through some stores. We closed out the night with finishing season 5 of LOST and going to bed happy that we had 3 more days in the weekend.

We're totally getting these ;)

Saturday, I was up bright and early (because my body hates me) and we got ready and headed out to the beach. We live about 20 minutes from the beach and this was our 2nd time going in a year - we're crazy for not going more and definitely need to change that! We bought a beach umbrella the night before and it made all the difference! We had an amazing time out there and loved watching all the surfers.

After the beach, we came home, ran to Publix, had lunch and watched some more LOST before grilling out. For desert, I made Fresh Strawberry Cake that Katie suggested and it was delicious, only problem is it didn't come out of the bunt pan... so it ended up getting thrown into a big Tupperware. Thank goodness no one else was supposed to eat it. Even though it looked like a hot mess, it tasted delicious!

Sunday, we got up and headed out to church. Afterwards, we came back and did some cleaning, Stephen mowed, I gave him and haircut and I worked on some embroidery orders. Afterwards, we relaxed, watched some LOST and I made a fun cheese tray before going on a bike ride and eating leftovers for dinner.

Monday, we slept in (finally!) and got to work figuring out where we were going to stay during our CO trip. We got 3/5 cities nailed down so we need to figure out the other 2 cities this week and officially book everything. I am definitely getting more and more excited for the trip after seeing the hotels and all the fun activities!! Afterwards, we tried to hang up our new outdoor fan and turns out, the builder did a sloppy job and didn't install the anchor properly. We're still not sure how to fix it without calling an electrician. After dinner, we watched a little more LOST until it was time for the Bachelorette!

I'm still pretty bummed we have to go back to normal life today but I'm so thankful we were able to have a lazy weekend and didn't have to travel anywhere. The next 3 weekends are going to be pretty crazy so hopefully I savored the slower weekends while I had them ;) I hope everyone else had a great Memorial Day Weekend!!

I bet everyone's excited for the weekend since we get an extra day to relax and have fun!! I for one, am so glad it's the weekend and we have an extra day - we have lots on our to-do list which also includes lots of relaxing ;) I'm also hoping we can go to the beach and grill out Saturday, but we'll see...

One
Old Navy is currently running 50% off shorts, shirts, tanks and swim sale through Monday so during lunch on Tuesday, I had to swing by and see what they had. I was in desperate need of some new shorts so I snagged thesethese and these. I also couldn't pass up this off the shoulder shirt and tassel tank (not online). I really wanted to find this off the shoulder shirt but didn't see it in the store, the associate was absolutely NO help and they only have the plus size online which tells me it's sold out.

Also, how cute is this dress and this tank?

Two
So the Bachelorette is back (can I get a hallelujah?!) and it's shaping up to be a great season!! I really liked Jordan, until my friend sent me a link to what his ex-girlfriend posted on instagram... and the drama begins! But that's not all I'm excited for; there's a new season of Baby Bachelorette! If you haven't seen this hysterical parody by Jimmy Kimmel, you need to watch. Also, go back and watch his Baby Bachelor series while you're at it ;)

Three
Publix had a BOGO sale on ice cream and frozen yogurt pops this week. I told Stephen hands off my fro-yo since I'm the only one who gains weight in the house ;) They're pretty good for being "healthier"

Four
I'm sure everyone already saw, but Disney released the new teaser trailer for the live action Beauty and the Beast! Someone put it side by side to the original trailer and it give me all the feels.

Kelsey did a super fun giveaway a little bit ago and I won! I was so excited because she helped fuel my obsession with pineapples - an adorable pineapple kitchen towel set (that match my placemats) and a super adorable pineapple apron! I've actually been wanting an apron for a little while now - can't wait to get baking with it! Thanks Kelsey!!!

I hope everyone has an amazing holiday weekend!!!

Time for a good ole confess sesh!

I confess that...

- I ran to Old Navy during lunch on Tuesday and after being back at work fro 30 minutes, realized I never buttoned the button at the top of the back of my shirt

- Apparently Tuesday was my 4 year anniversary since getting my internship with my current group at work.. I say apparently because I got a ton of "happy anniversary" messages on LinkedIn

- I really don't utilize LinkedIn and just go on there to accept (friend?) requests

- Our networks went down at work the other day and everyone was at a loss since they want us to save all of our stuff on the network (shot ourselves in the foot?). The plus was I didn't have anything due that day and I got to go home to work since everything worked outside of the office

- On Tuesday and Wednesday I was very good and did this Tone it Up high intensity interval training workout. It's great because it doesn't feel like you're working out too hard but at the end you really feel it (and the next day too!)

- Brittany had her sweet baby boy this past weekend! Guess that isn't a confession other than I confess that the boys are so adorable! Congrats to the Whitacre's!

- It's looking like this Bachelorette season is going to be a good one! Jo Jo's got some great guys and some crazies but that's what makes it fun. Once again, Shaeffer hit it out of the park with her recap

- We're getting so close to finally booking a landscaper to redo our yard and I cannot wait for it to be done! Our yard looks SO bad right now (you're going to die on the before pictures lol) and I'm sure our neighbors are equally as excited ;)

Weekending

Monday, May 23, 2016

Our weekend was super low key, so this post is probably going to be boring - that's life sometimes :)

We kicked off Friday with an afternoon eye appointment. I hadn't been in ~15 years mainly because I didn't notice a difference in my vision and I hate it when they touch my eye for the glaucoma test. Thankfully, I've still got 20/20 vision which means I won't go back for another 15 years... just kidding. On the other hand, we've got to go and get Stephen some new glasses next weekend. Trust me when I say, don't buy cheap glasses.

We managed to miss all the bad storms that rolled through during our appointment so we grabbed some dinner from Publix and headed home to binge watch LOST. After watching a few hours, we went on a bike ride around our neighborhood and then came back for more lol

Saturday, we slept in and made breakfast, watched some more LOST and then I headed out to run errands and get my hair trimmed while Stephen got to work on the yard. My hair was so thick, I was desperate to get it cut - it feels so much lighter and clean! After my appointment, I needed a few things from Target and since Stephen wasn't with me, I took the opportunity to browse around the clothes and try some things on. Unfortunately for me, nothing fit right - everything looked too baggy so I saved our pocketbook.

Once I got home, we went outside so Stephen could spray our roof to get rid of the mildew spots. We've been getting letters from the HOA about the mildew on the roof since we moved in. Let's be honest, it looked pretty bad but 85% of the neighborhood has mildewing roofs as well. Last week we received a letter threatening to fine us everyday until we got it fixed, so up Stephen went. It was SO hot outside but thankfully Stephen got the job done! Hopefully we'll see results in the next few weeks because he's not getting back up there.

Afterwards, we were both so worn out from the heat that we watched LOST the rest of the night and finished up season 4. Side note: I can totally see how people got annoyed with the show towards the end - it's super all over the place right now!

Sunday we went to church and Publix, then came home and did some cleaning, laundry and ironing. Stephen wanted to grill ribs on Saturday night but we were so wiped out, we ended up doing it Sunday night and it was delicious! We tried garlic confit mashed potatoes and grilled artichokes with a goat milk yogurt mixture... that was good, not great lol

It wouldn't be a Bachelor Monday post if I didn't mention the new season of the Bachelorette starting tonight!! I will definitely be watching and can't wait to see this season! We've even got our brackets ready to go again ;)

It was a good weekend relaxing and Stephen was able to cross a lot off his list which was #1 priority :) Can't wait for a 3 day weekend coming up!! Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

One
Last night we attended a local minor league baseball game after work! Stephen's company has season tickets that they raffle off and we got a pair! It was so much fun and we can't wait to go back - it wasn't crowded, the weather was amazing and it was such a fun, family environment. I was worried we weren't going to get to go due to weather but thankfully, it held out until the bottom of the 9th when the game was tied. I see lots more games in our future...

Two
I made Jenn's Parm Herb Crusted Salmon earlier this and it was amazing! I awful at cooking fish on the skillet so I figured I'd give her oven recipe a try before writing fish off forever. It turned out so well and Stephen loved it too! I served it with lemon roasted broccoli and pearled couscous and Stephen requested it to be made with these exact sides next time lol

Three
Stephen decided he wanted to wear a bow tie to the gala we went to last weekend to look a little more dressed up. I certainly didn't hesitate to agree and helped him pick out a formal bow tie at Nordstrom Rack (did you know they have amazing designer ties for cheap there!? He got some Michael Kors ties for $17 each!!). It took a few tries to figure out how to tie it but once he figured it out, there was no stopping him!! He claims that bow ties are way easier to tie than regular ties and he really likes wearing them which means, I have free reign to buy him all the cute, southern bow ties!! Anyways, the reason I'm saying all of this is because Southern Weddings recently released a line of bow ties and produced a how to tie a bow tie video this week. So if your man is considering a bow tie, send him this video and get to tying!!

Four
I am excited because I'm finally getting my hair cut after 6 months... Usually every 2 months or so my hair gets way too thick and unmanageable, which is my sign it's time for a haircut. I hadn't noticed it getting too thick until lately and it's like I can't do anything with it - so I'm off to the salon to get it under control. I like that it's a little longer so I'll probably keep it the same length, just add some more layers, get the ends cut off and get it thinned. So ready for it to feel lighter.

Five
I'm sure a lot of y'all follow Julia over at Gal Meets Glam. Recently she's been recapping their Italian and England adventures and this week she's been talking about the English Countryside. I am loving her English Countryside posts which is giving me travel fever. Everything is so charming and beautiful - reminds me of Pride and Prejudice. If only blogging was my job...

This weekend is going to be pretty low key. Stephen has a constant growing to-do list so I know he's ready to get things checked off which means I'll probably be embroidering things and watching Gossip Girl lol Today we actually have eye appointments which I'm kind of looking forward to because I haven't had an official eye doctor visit in like 15 years (so bad, I know). I've started to notice it feels like my eye sight isn't as good as it once was so I'm interested to see what my results will be.

A Day in the Life

Thursday, May 19, 2016

I finally remembered to do "A Day in the Life" post and I have to say, I'm very proud of myself for remembering to document the whole day. I originally wanted to do Monday, May 9 but forgot so I ended up documenting Wednesday May 11 which was perfect because I had lots of meetings at work that day :)

5:30 am: Time to wake up but today, Stephen and I slept until 5:45 am (those extra 15 minutes do wonders lol) I usually keep sleeping on and off while Stephen showers and gets ready. Once he's done, we pray, I read my daily devotion after he leaves and then I browse social media while debating when I want to get out of bed

6:20 am: I've finally drug myself out of bed to get ready for the day.

7:10 am: I'm finally ready for work and head out to the kitchen to get my lunch and breakfast. I usually leave at 7 am but since school is out, there's no traffic

I've gotten in the habit of making a blueberry detox smoothie every morning before work and then I get my lunch out of the fridge and I'm out the door.

8:15 am: I get to Orlando and realize I forgot to get gum from home. I ALWAYS have to have gum so I head to the gas station to pick some up before heading in

8:25 am: I make it to work with gum in tow :)

8:45 am: It usually takes a few minutes to get settled and my computer going for the day (we have the slowest starting computers) I also use the morning to chit chat with a few co-workers, get water and ready myself for the day ahead.

10:30 am: At this point, I've already had one meeting and my second one is a telecon. After my meeting, I get some other work done before lunch

11:45 am: On Mondays and Wednesdays, I go workout with a handful of girls from work. I love working out with them and it's so nice to get away from my desk and be active. Our office has a mile long trail and an area where we bring our yoga mats and do abs or legs.

1:00 pm: Workout is done, I feel like I stink and it's time for lunch! I get some more work done while eating and gear up for 2 more meetings

1:30 pm: My first meeting starts - this one was with a colleague from Germany and then we head to another meeting with the graphics department to review some videos and brochures we're working on

4:30 pm: My day is done at work!! It was a long, but very productive day and I'm ready to go home and shower after getting gross from the workout

5:30 pm: The drive was a struggle but I made it home and am completely exhausted. I get the mail and then lay down to check social media while telling myself if I take a nap, I will regret it in a few hours. (This is also where I failed on getting a picture of coming home lol)

6:30 pm: I've finally convinced myself to get up and shower so I can get some things done before Stephen gets home. I needed to finish an order for a birthday party this weekend so I get going on 3 bath towels

I'm starting to wonder if it's operator error or if my machine isn't that good since a needle broke while going over previous thread... it's supposed to be able to do this without breaking...

7:45 pm: Stephen's finally home and finishing up his daily report. I begin unloading the dishwasher while Stephen gets cleaned up for dinner.

8:15 pm: We finally sit down for dinner. I hate that we eat so late but with Stephen's busy schedule, it is what it is... After dinner I make our lunches for the next day

8:55 pm: We finally sit down and watch an episode of LOST before getting ready for bed

10:00 pm: Lights off! We usually like to go to bed around 9:30 pm but as long as it's not later than 10 pm we're good :)

Phew!! If you made it through this post, congrats!! It'll definitely be interesting to see how things change in the future and especially once we have kids!
