Weekending

Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Phew! I cannot believe it's Wednesday and I'm finally getting around to blogging about our weekend. Needless to say, things have been crazy at work and the to-do list never seems to end at home so I've put blogging on the back burner. I hate that I haven't even gotten to read through all of my regular blogs!

Even though the past two days have been crazy, we had an amazing weekend. The whole time we kept saying how much we were enjoying the weekend together! Friday was super low key which was amazing - after Stephen came home from work we relaxed and watched LOST all evening. It was perfect and just what we needed, especially with the awful weather we had that night.

Saturday, our neighborhood had their big garage sale and we drove down a street and called it a day... apparently Stephen wasn't willing to buy anything anyways #whatsthepointofgoingthen? We quickly headed over to the local zoo because Stephen's company was hosting family day. For $5 we got into the zoo, was fed lunch and got to take a kayaking tour! I could not believe how much we enjoyed the zoo and how much fun we had!! It was so nice walking around at our own pace, laughing at some of the animals and talking about how we can't wait to get year passes once we have kids.

The kangaroos had us laughing because they were straight chillin! There was also one with a Joey in her pouch and we got a teeny glimpse when she'd put her head in her pouch to clean him.

The main thing I wanted to do at the zoo was feed the giraffes - I've never gotten to do it before! We waited for them to be released and got to see the new babies run around in excitement. I ended up feeding them 2 different times and it was so cool; I'll definitely be doing that again!

Please ignore our awkwardness in this video...

After the zoo we headed to pick up our remaining two kitchen chairs but one was damaged so now we're one chair short instead of two. We also took advantage of Old Navy's $5 athletic shorts sale - Stephen got 3 pairs and I got this one and this one. After the mall, we headed over to Publix to grocery shop for the week - before shopping, we stopped into a new ice cream shop next door and it was delicious! We literally watched LOST the rest of the night after Stephen mowed and while I did laundry.

Sunday we woke up and headed down to Stephen's parents for his dad's 35th anniversary recognition dinner. We wanted to attend church there that morning and made it just in time for the last service. After, we went back to their house for brunch and relaxing before heading back out. The church members decorated their fellowship hall so nicely and everyone was waiting for us to arrive with a warm welcome. It was so neat to hear some of his pastor friends give speeches about him and have my in-laws honored for all of their hard work and dedication to the church. We headed home quickly after and made it just in time to take a shower and go to sleep.

This was the only picture I was able to snag (while everyone was getting food). It was a packed house!!

While at my in-laws, we did take home their old bikes. They're super rusty and a few parts need to be replaced but other than that, they should be usable. Let me know if anyone has any experience with fixing up bikes!

  1. Sounds like such a fun weekend -- and those spent together are the best! I so wish we had good garage sales around us. My in-law's live in an awesome city with tons of them; I so need to go one day! :)

  6. That video is too funny, and I loved seeing your snaps on the zoo too!!!! We haven't been to the zoo in years, so we might have to go this summer!! So sad about your chair, but hopefully you'll get it soon! That is so sweet of them to do that for your FIL, it looks like y'all had a great turnout for his event. Sweet memories!! :) Woo hoo for new bikes! I would love to go bike riding, but Matthew isn't a big fan of them lol. Hope y'all are able to get them fixed up soon!
